Dental Implant

What is an implant?

Implants are artificial tooth roots made of biocompatible, highly pure titanium, made with high precision. It has a particularly good texture; Biocompatibility combined with bones creates a secure connection called Osseointegration. Allergic reactions to titanium are not known. This tooth root is an integral pillar for the “three”. With it, crowns, bridges or prostheses can be attached.

Who are the implants useful for? Implants are a good alternative for periodontal disease, periodontitis, tooth decay or tooth loss due to accidents. There is no age limit here. Tooth loss is increasingly affecting younger patients and predominantly the elderly. We distinguish the following: Single-phase implants: Implanted implant on the mucosa remains visible during the healing period. After this stage, the restorations can be cemented or screwed into the crown structure of the implant. Biphasic implant: This implant is invisible and is covered during the healing of the oral mucosa. However, after this stage is completed, it should be exposed again under local anesthesia.

How is an implant done?

Usually there is a screw or cylindrical system. Available in different lengths and diameters. The dental implant is placed exactly where the previous tooth fell out and grew with the bone.
How is the implant fixed?

With a surgical scalpel or stapler, the gum is opened to provide enough space for the implant to be cut. The jawbone is then treated with sterile saline under adequate cooling with special drills according to the position and size of the implant. In between, you can do an x-ray exam to check the selected location (hole direction, depth, etc.). The implant is then firmly fixed in the bone. Many implant systems provide a thread that allows the implant to be screwed into the drill hole using a ratchet. Cylinder implant systems are nailed to the jawbone. After the implant is placed, a healing cap is screwed onto the artificial tooth root and the mucous membrane is sutured (closed method) or a small support is applied to directly shape the gums (open method). In some cases, the implant can be supported immediately with temporary prostheses. The implantologist must decide individually which type, length and diameter are suitable for the patient. It should pay attention to the manufacturer’s safety and durability.
